JM House
Type: private house
Location: Invergordon, Scotland
Completion: 2006

JM House is a perfect example of modern living model encased in a shell which respects Scottish design traditions. Untreated larch cladding contrasts with white rendered gables, largely glazed south façade is open towards garden giving tremendous views across Cromarty Firth. The building’s central space is an open kitchen / dining connected via feature staircase and a gallery with an upstairs lounge. This arrangement creates one large living space where all family members can spend time together. Clever use of sloping site allowed maintaining single storey appearance from the access road while forming a full two storey high building. South facing ground floor sheltered terrace can be used throughout the year, no matter what weather, whereas first floor terrace provides striking views over the garden hedge towards the Firth.
